Milpitas Traffic Stop Ends In Officer-Involved Shooting

MILPITAS (CBS SF) – A traffic stop outside an East Bay motel parking lot ended in an officer-involved shooting early Friday with a 27-year-old San Jose man with three outstanding warrants being taken to the hospital with non-life threatening wounds, authorities said.

Milpitas Police Sgt. Frank Morales said the incident began around 12:51 a.m. when police made a traffic stop outside the Executive Inn on Dempsey.

The officer and the suspect drove their vehicles into the motel's parking lot. The suspect then ran from the vehicle across East Calaveras Boulevard until
officers arrested him on a northbound Highway 680 transition ramp. At some point during the encounter, the officer shot the suspect.

Authorities said the suspect was in stable condition and expected to survive.

Morales said the officer was not injured.

The suspect had three outstanding no bail warrants, but Morales did not say what crimes those warrants were for

The incident remains under investigation.
