Suspect Arrested After Fatal Antioch Convenience Store Shooting
ANTIOCH (CBS SF) -- A man arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting a woman at an Antioch convenience store Monday morning was previously in a relationship with the victim, police said.
Officers responded to at 7:11 a.m. at the Quik Stop store at 2760 W. Tregallas Road.
Upon arrival, officers found a 27-year-old woman fatally shot and a 27-year-old man suffering a gunshot wound, police said. The man was taken to a John Muir Hospital for treatment of his injuries. He is expected to be released Tuesday.
Both victims were Antioch residents.
The male suspect was taken into custody in front of the Antioch Police Department at 300 L St. shortly after the shooting, police said.
KPIX 5 spoke with the father of the Qwik Stop clerk who was injured in the shooting.
Thomas Payne said his son, 27-year-old Thomas Paine Junior, was trying to protect the victim during a domestic dispute.
"He said he is ok, not to worry about him," said Payne.
Payne explained his son was the Qwik Stop clerk on duty when the victim came into the store Monday morning.
"He [the suspect] was in the Qwik Stop confronting the lady. He left to go outside to the car, said Payne. My son came around the corner to protect her, then the guy came back with a gun and shot her in the face and my son in the arm."
The coroner arrived Monday afternoon to remove the woman's body. The suspect was later identified as 34-year-old Oakland resident Thomas Williams Jr. The female victim was identified as 27-year-old Cynthia Flores-Crose.
The shooting is still under investigation.
