Novato's Republic Of Tea Recalls Green Tea Over Salmonella Worries

NOVATO (CBS SF) – A Novato-based company that blends and markets premium teas from all over the world is recalling a type of green tea over the possibility of salmonella.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, The Republic of Tea has placed a voluntary recall of its Organic Turmeric Ginger Green Tea, after a supplier said one lot of their organic ginger ingredient could be contaminated.

While tests conducted by The Republic of Tea could not find salmonella, the company has issued the recall as a precaution.

"There is absolutely no evidence that our tea has been contaminated. We are taking this preventive, cautious measure because we want our citizens to feel comfortable when drinking our premium quality teas and herbs," said Todd B. Rubin, who refers to himself as the company's "Minister of Evolution."
