Bernie Sanders Brings Message Of Change To Thousands In Stockton

STOCKTON (CBS SF) – Four weeks before the California primary, Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders brought his message of change to Stockton on Tuesday, during a campaign swing through the Central Valley.

Following a rally on Monday in Sacramento, thousands showed up hours before the senator from Vermont took the stage at the Weber Point Event Center. Sanders highlighted Stockton as an example of one of the many communities across the country that are hurting.

The presidential hopeful believes his agenda, which includes raising the national minimum wage to $15 an hour, will help families who live here.

"I would say that in America today, we have millions of people who are working off starvation wages, that we have massive levels of wealth and income inequality, that in America, if you work 40 hours a week, you should not be living in poverty. $15 an hour is a living wage, they're not going to get rich on that," Sanders said in an interview with KPIX 5.

Sanders spoke to the crowd for an hour and got huge responses when he talked about things like free public higher education, reducing income inequality and decriminalizing marijuana.

Sanders admitted that he had a steep climb as he battles frontrunner Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination. With California's large number of delegates, Sanders plans to spend plenty of time in the Golden State over the next month.
