Suspicious Package Prompts Lockdown Of San Francisco Hospital

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – San Francisco police have determined a suspicious package found across the street from a hospital Tuesday morning is safe and are reopening streets in the area, police said.

The package was discovered at 9:52 a.m. on the north side of Cesar Chavez Street across from California Pacific Medical Center's St. Luke's Campus at 3555 Cesar Chavez St., police spokeswoman Officer Grace Gatpandan said.

The Police Department's bomb squad investigated the package.  Police asked people inside the hospital to shelter in place, which is standard protocol for a suspicious package investigation, Gatpandan said.

As of about 11:30 a.m., the package was determined to be safe and streets in the area were reopening.
