Police Arrest Man For Alleged Golf Club Attack On Woman In Santa Cruz
SANTA CRUZ (CBS SF) -- Police in Santa Cruz on Friday arrested a man in connection with randomly attacking a woman with a golf club.
Landon Horseman, 28, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, according to police.
Around 12:50 p.m., officers were dispatched to a coffee shop in the 1500 block of Pacific Avenue regarding a report that a man approached a woman sitting on a bench outside a coffee shop and struck her across the head and shoulder with a golf club, police said.
The force of the strike caused the golf club to break.
The suspect, later identified as Horseman, then walked away from the scene after yelling at the victim, according to police.
Witnesses called 911 and followed Horseman until officers arrived.
Horseman was located a few blocks away in the area of Water and River streets. Horseman was uncooperative with officers and had to be taken into custody at gunpoint, police said.
Investigators determined the attack was unprovoked and completely random.
The victim, identified as a 23-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital and treated for her injuries, according to police.
Police said Horseman is a transient out of Washington and had recently arrived in Santa Cruz.
