Dozens Of Cows Invade Morgan Hill Backyard

MORGAN HILL (KPIX 5) – A Morgan Hill family was stunned to discover several dozen cows that stampeded into their backyard on Tuesday afternoon, leaving behind a huge mess.

"I think they just moved up against the fence and loosened a board," Cheryl Aljuni told KPIX 5. "And decided they could come through and basically push their way through."

Aljuni said about 60 cows bulldozed a bench, along with destroying plants, fruit trees and flowers and full bloom.

"It was just really nice, and they just made it down to nothing," said Tom Aljuni.

These cows usually graze in the open space up the hill, so the grass may just have been greener on the other side.

"It was quite a shock to see, and then what do you do when you have all those cows in your yard? What do you do? How do you get rid of them? I had no idea," Cheryl Aljuni said. "I tried screaming, making a loud noise and they could have cared less."

Eventually, the family says a Morgan Hill police officer spent an hour corralling the cows and sent them back out the way they barged in.

These high tech workers said they wanted a quieter home life when they moved in 10 years ago.

"It's just something you don't expect, you just shake your head, and open your eyes and say, Is this real? Am I dreaming?" Tom Aljuni said.

The family estimates the damage to be a couple thousand dollars, but said the owner of the land behind their home will cover the cost with insurance.
