Smoky BART Train Triggers Morning Commute Delays

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Morning commuters heading to San Francisco on the Bay Area Rapid Transit system ran into delays Friday morning because of a train with smoky brakes, officials said.

A BART dispatcher said problems began with a train malfunction at the 16th Street BART station in the East Bay direction shortly before 9 a.m.

As of about 9:15 a.m., trains were moving again and BART was recovering from the delay, the dispatcher said.

San Francisco Fire Department reported on Twitter at 9:13 a.m. that the department had received reports of smoke and it was possibly due to the train's brake issue.

Although no injuries were reported, the department advised people to avoid the area.
