3-Alarm Fire Damages Several Buildings In East Oakland

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Firefighters brought a three-alarm fire under control that broke out early Saturday morning in East Oakland.

The fire started around 1 a.m. at a business at the intersection of 73rd Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard and was deemed under control at 6:40 a.m., according to Fire Chief Teresa Deloach Reed.

A fourth alarm was called, but quickly canceled as firefighters had the blaze under control, according to Reed.

Fire officials said several businesses were damaged.

No injuries have been reported.

The intersection remained closed as of 7:30 a.m. and Reed said firefighters would remain on scene throughout the day for a fire watch and to tend to any hot spots that might linger.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and there has been no assessment of damage yet.
