One Dead, Suspects At Large In Novato Double Shooting

NOVATO (CBS SF) -- One person was dead and a second was injured in a shooting reported in Novato Wednesday evening, according to a Marin County sheriff's lieutenant.

Around 5:30 p.m. deputies received a report from a victim who had been stabbed and shot near the end of Fairway Drive off of Ignacio Boulevard.

Novato police responded and found the victim, who was transported to a hospital. They also determined the crime likely took place in an open space area on a nearby hillside, in the sheriff's office's jurisdiction.

During a search of the area, officers discovered a second victim apparently suffering from gunshot wounds on the hillside near the original crime scene, according to sheriff's Lt. Doug Pittman.

As of 5:55 p.m. deputies were working with a California Highway Patrol helicopter to rescue the victim, Pittman said.

The suspects were described as three Hispanic males, based on information from the first victim, according to Pittman.

Multiple agencies taking part in a manhunt for the suspects.

Residents around Fairway Drive were being told to shelter in place as of 7 p.m.
