Shallow Sinkhole Opens Up In SF Ingleside Neighborhood
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A sinkhole opened up in San Francisco's Ingleside neighborhood Friday evening, according to a utility spokesman.
Charles Sheehan, with the San Francisco Public Utility Commission, said the sinkhole appeared Friday evening in the 300 block of Lakeview Avenue near Margaret Avenue.
The roadway collapsed sometime Friday evening, Sheehan said, but it was unclear exactly when.
Utility crews responded to the area and found a sinkhole, roughly four feet deep, described as "small" and "shallow."
They closed Lakeview Avenue to through traffic and set up barricades to make the area safe, but residents are still able to access their homes with vehicles.
Personnel are currently assessing the possibility of re-opening the roadway, as there are no immediate safety concerns associated with the sinkhole.
Sheehan said the area is secure and residents can still come in and out as needed.
