Caltrain Fatally Strikes Pedestrian In Redwood City

REDWOOD CITY (CBS SF) – A Caltrain fatally struck a pedestrian during the Wednesday morning commute, officials with the transit agency confirmed.

According to officials, train 305 was heading northbound when it struck the pedestrian at Whipple Avenue shortly after 6:00 a.m. The train was a Baby Bullet train that provides service from Diridon Station in San Jose to San Francisco.

For a time, service in both directions was halted and a SamTrans bus bridge was set up between Redwood City and Belmont. Trains began single tracking through the area by 7:15 a.m. Tracks in both directions were opened around 8:00 a.m., but passengers should expect delays through the morning commute.

Information about the pedestrian killed was not immediately available.

Caltrain officials said Wednesday's incident was the 7th fatality on the tracks this year.
