Trump Staging Rally At San Jose Convention Center

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) – Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is expected to appear at a rally in San Jose on Thursday, as part of his latest campaign swing through the state.

Campaign officials said the rally would take place at the South Hall of the San Jose Convention Center at 7:00 p.m., with doors opening at 4:00 p.m.

Despite having the delegates necessary to clinch the Republican nomination, Trump is continuing to campaign in California ahead of next week's primary. The candidate is holding a rally at the Sacramento International Airport Wednesday night.

Last week, Trump staged rallies in Fresno, San Diego and Anaheim, with protesters gathering outside each event. At the Fresno rally, the candidate was dismissive about the state being in a drought. In San Diego, about 1,000 protesters showed up, and 12 were arrested following clashes with police.

Thursday's event would be Trump's first appearance in the Bay Area since the California Republican Party convention on April 29th. While protesters blocked the entrance to the Hyatt Regency hotel, Trump was forced to hop a fence off Highway 101 and enter through the back of the hotel to make his speech.

"That was not the easiest entrance I've ever made," the frontrunner told party members at the convention.

"It felt like I was crossing the border actually. I was crossing the border, but I got here," the candidate said, referencing his promise to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Trump will be the second major party presidential candidate to swing by Silicon Valley this week. Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders is scheduled to speak at a rally in Palo Alto Wednesday afternoon.
