Report: Mark Davis Registered Las Vegas Raiders Domain Name In 1999

Bryan Altman

If you think that the possibility of the Oakland Raiders moving to Las Vegas hadn't crossed team owner Mark Davis's mind until recently, you're in for quite a surprise.

According to an interview SI.com's MMQB conducted with Andy Abboud, the vice president for government relations and community development at Las Vegas Sands Corporation, Davis actually purchased the domain name for the Las Vegas Raiders back in 1999, so needless to say he's planned accordingly if the team is indeed going to make a move to the desert.

From SI.com's MMQB:

"ABBOUD: With Mark Davis coming to the tourism meeting and doing the interviews this spring. If you go onto the website, we released a video about their commitment to the community, and knowing that the Davis family has always had an interest in moving the team to Las Vegas. Mark told me he bought the Las Vegas Raiders website in 1999."

According to SI.com, Abboud has taken the lead on securing a stadium for the Raiders in Las Vegas as a part of a joint operation with the Las Vegas Sands Corporation.

Davis has pledged 'hundreds of millions' to finance the move and reports have indicated that discussion between the Raiders and the city of Oakland remain at an impasse.

Either way, with the website secure for the better part of the last two decades, the Raiders appear to be one step closer to leaving the bay area for Sin City.

Bryan Altman is, for some reason, an unabashed fan of the Rangers, Jets and Mets. If he absolutely had to pick a basketball team it would be the Knicks, but he'd gladly trade them for just one championship for any of his other three teams.
