Pittsburg Renames Itself 'Teal Town' In Honor Of Sharks Cup Run

PITTSBURG (CBS SF) – While the San Jose Sharks battle the Penguins of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the Stanley Cup, the East Bay community of Pittsburg is siding with the much closer hockey team.

According to a written statement Thursday, the city without an "h" said it has renamed itself "Teal Town" for the duration of the Stanley Cup Final.

"We are behind our Sharks, and we're flying the Team banner on City Hall. We'd rather be known as Teal Town than be associated with those Penguins," Mayor Ben Johnson said.

After two one-goal losses, the Sharks trail the Penguins 0-2 in the best-of-seven game series. Despite the deficit, the city's press release expressed optimism about the Sharks chances, saying the celebration would "continue through the Stanley Cup Final to the championship parade day in downtown San Jose."

Games 3 and 4 take place at the SAP Center in San Jose on Saturday and Monday. If necessary, Game 5 would be held in Pittsburgh, while Game 6 would be held in San Jose. Pittsburgh would host a deciding Game 7 on June 15th.
