The two guitarists took to the ice at SAP Center in San Jose, where the San Jose Sharks were playing the Pittsburgh Penguins. Hetfield, a diehard Sharks fan, wore the team's jersey.

The guitars used by Hetfield and Hammett were autographed, displayed during the game, and then given up for auction to benefit the Sharks Foundation, reported Billboard. The Sharks Foundation aims to enhance the lives of underprivileged youth and families and supplies emergency aid when needed.

Fans can bid on the guitars until next Wednesday (June 15). At press time, Hetfield's ESP guitar was up to $10,025, while Hammett's was at $5,025.
