Stabbing Victim Among Four People Injured In Mangled Pleasant Hill Car Crash

PLEASANT HILL (CBS SF) -- The driver in a Pleasant Hill car crash goes on the run. But, it turns out the driver was actually the victim of a violent crime himself.

The driver managed to escape a mangled pile of twisted metal that used to be a Cadillac.

Police say the driver ran a red light at Pleasant Hill Road and Taylor Boulevard before smashing into two other cars.

Four people were rushed to the hospital including the driver of the Cadillac. But not only did the driver survive the crash, police said he got out and started running.

Pleasant Hill police Sgt. Brian Leonard said, "He ends up breaking the fence in the side yard of a homeowner and that's where we found him."

The homeowner, Mike Carlson, said the driver was a scary sight.

"He was right back there behind my trampoline," Carlson said.

It turns out the driver wasn't just hurt in the car crash. He had also been stabbed.

"He was staggering over. I got a good look at him and he was covered in blood. He basically mustered up, 'call an ambulance, call the police' and I said, 'Okay,  okay,'" Carlson said.

The driver of the Cadillac told police the stabbing happened in Martinez, and Martinez police said they are still investigating to find out exactly what happened and why.

Police said the man was stabbed in the back and neck. He is in serious condition and has undergone surgery Monday night.

Investigators are hoping he will eventually tell them more about what happened.
