San Francisco's Iconic Clock Tower Penthouse Goes on Sale For $8.5 Million

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A part of San Francisco architectural history, converted into one of the city's most unique residences, is going on sale for an eye-popping price.

The Clock Tower penthouse, the signature portion of the landmark building, has been put on the market for a whopping $8.5 million.

The tower was an addition to a factory building which housed the Max Schmidt Lithography Company, built in 1922 at Second and Bryant streets in the city's South of Market area.

The company later created light infused studios inside the building for artists. These homes fueled artist's imagination, housed luxurious parties during prohibition, and significantly impacted the world of architecture.

In 1993, the building was converted into 127 live-work lofts, including the 3,000 square-foot Clock Tower penthouse loft. The residence has 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, modern amenities and sweeping views of AT&T Park, Twin Peaks, and Bernal Hill.

The original owners are putting it up for sale with Sotheby's for the first time since they moved in. You can see more of the property at this website.
