Livermore Police Officer Latest To Be Placed On Leave Amid Sex Scandal

LIVERMORE (CBS SF) — A Livermore police officer alleged to be among the 30-plus Bay Area law enforcement officials who had a sexual relationship with a sex worker, known as Celeste Guap, has been placed on administrative leave.

On Thursday night, the Livermore Police Department released a statement saying that its administration decided to place the officer on leave while an internal investigation is underway following media reports of the officer’s involvement with Guap. The officer will stay on leave until the administrative investigation is complete, according to the department.

Livermore police Chief Michael Harris said in a statement released Thursday night:

“I take very seriously any behavior by members of the Livermore Police Department, on or off-duty, that negatively impacts the public trust. It is my expectation and has been my experience that the men and women of the Livermore Police Department understand this and take pride in holding themselves to the highest ethical standards, striving to serve our community with honor. If, after a thorough investigation, it is determined that the employee in question has violated department policy, swift and appropriate discipline will be enforced to hold the officer accountable for his actions.”

The police department said an independent criminal investigation into the allegation is being conducted by the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.

California law prohibits the police department from naming the officer.

Earlier on Thursday, authorities announced that a Contra Costa County sheriff’s deputy being investigated for his alleged involvement in the East Bay law enforcement sexual misconduct scandal, had resigned.
