Coast Guard Rescues 4 From Bay On 4th Of July

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – The U.S. Coast Guard rescued four people from the waters of the Bay in three separate incidents Monday off the coasts of Rodeo, Treasure Island and San Francisco.

Around 3:15 p.m. the Coast Guard was notified that a 10-foot sailboat had capsized off the coast of Rodeo, with one man in the water.

A response boat launched from Vallejo arrived on the scene at 3:37 p.m. and retrieved the victim from the water. He was transported to Vallejo and determined to be uninjured.

Around 4:50 p.m., the Coast Guard was notified that the operator of a 30-foot sailboat near Treasure Island was clutching his chest and yelling for help.

A response boat arrived around 5:05 p.m. and transported the man to Pier 40 in San Francisco where he was handed off to firefighters.

Then around 7 p.m. a response boat encountered a kayak that had capsized near Pier 40. Two people were rescued from the water and taken back to shore. They also retrieved the kayak.

Coast Guard officials said that additional boating traffic on the July 4th can increase the odds of maritime emergencies on the water.
