Two Children Struck By Vehicle In Morgan Hill

MORGAN HILL (CBS SF) -- Two children were struck by a vehicle in downtown Morgan Hill on Monday night, according to police.

Officers responded at 9:10 p.m. to the collision at Monterey Road and Fourth Street and found the juvenile victims.

One of the victims was trapped under the vehicle and had to be extricated by first responders. Both children were taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center to be treated for their injuries and an update on their condition was not immediately available Tuesday morning.

Investigators determined the vehicle was traveling north on Monterey Road and struck the children, who were crossing the road east in the crosswalk. One victim was riding his bicycle while the other was on a scooter.

Neither child had a helmet on at the time of the collision.

The female driver of the vehicle was not hurt.

"The driver stuck around. During the investigation, the driver was cooperative. And as of last night, it didn't appear that the driver was intoxicated or had been used narcotics," Morgan Hill Police Sergeant Carson Thomas said.

The collision is being investigated by the Police Department's traffic unit. Anyone who may have witnessed it is encouraged to call Cpl. Scott Silva at (408) 779-2101 or an anonymous tip line at (408) 947-STOP.
