Brett Favre Says Raiders QB Derek Carr 'More Advanced' Than He Was In Year Three

By Rahul Lal

The Oakland Raiders are in line for what is projected to be their best season in many years and much of that can be attributed to the progress of their former second round pick, Derek Carr.

Recently, wide receiver Michael Crabtree drew comparisons between his quarterback and the iconic Hall of Famer, Brett Favre, for their 'gunslinging' abilities. Favre had some high praise for the third year quarterback as well.

"I don't know if I consider him a gunslinger," Favre told CNS Bay Area. "I think he's a little more polished. And I mean that with all due respect. I think he's done a tremendous job with Oakland. I like the way he plays. I think he's a little more polished. I like to watch him. A good player."

Favre was asked to compare Carr's development to his own at Carr's age and stated that the young star is "more advanced" at the position than he was at that point of his career.

The praise probably won't go unnoticed by Carr, who has cited Favre as the reason why he wears No. 4 on his jersey.

Carr, only 25, is facing major expectations after showing major improvement last season.

Carr had a breakout season in 2015 improving the three-win Raiders to seven wins while also skyrocketing his own statistics to just short of 4,000 passing yards and 32 touchdowns. With a number of valuable free agency signings and more experience for their young core, the Raiders have a very real chance to make their first postseason appearance since 2002.
