Facebook Activates 'Safety Check' To Find Loved Ones After Deadly Nice Attack
MENLO PARK (CBS SF)--Facebook has activated it's Safety Check feature after the deadly Bastille Day attack in Nice.
A truck driver plowed into a crowd of revelers during the fireworks display on the Promenade des Anglais.
More than 70 people were killed. Dozens were injured.
Authorities say the truck was filled with ammunition and explosive.

Safety Check will tell users if any of their Facebook friends was in the vicinity of the attack.
"Quickly find and connect with friends in the area. Mark them safe if you know they're OK," instructs the page.
The Safety Check feature will send people in and around Nice a message asking if they are okay. When they click 'yes,' their friend and family are notified.
"We hope the people in the area find the tool a helpful way to let their friends and family know they are okay," a Facebook spokeswoman said in a statement.
This is the second time in as little as 8 months Safety Check has been activated in France. The feature was turned on after the November 13, 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris.
