Driver Arrested After Bay Bridge Sideshow Caught On Camera

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – The California Highway Patrol arrested one driver and cited another after following a sideshow on the Bay Bridge over the weekend that was caught on camera.

According to a CHP statement posted on its Facebook page, a motorist witnessed two Ford Mustangs and a Chevy Camaro weaving in and out of traffic and traveling between 80-90 mph westbound on the bridge around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Several minutes later, all three cars stopped traffic on the bridge on the westerm span west of Yerba Buena Island. The CHP said all three cars were doing donuts across all five lanes. A motorist who called CHP captured the sideshow on her cellphone.

Around 3:40 p.m., CHP units at the end of the Bay Bridge pulled over the two Mustangs. One of the drivers, identified by the CHP as 20-year-old Moises Rosales, was arrested and had his car impounded, while the other driver was cited and released. It is unclear what happened to the driver of the Camaro.

"I'm pleased the CHP was able to apprehend the subjects responsible for this unsafe and disruptive behavior," CHP San Francisco Area Commander Christopher Sherry said Monday. "The majority of the motoring public does not think this type of behavior, specifically shutting down freeways and bridges is acceptable."

The CHP said charges against Rosales will be filed with the San Francisco District Attorney's Office.

At least two other sideshows have taken place on the Bay Bridge this year. In April, nearly 50 cars were reportedly involved in a sideshow that shut down traffic on the eastern span. Another muscle car shut down traffic while doing donuts on the western span during a sideshow in February.
