Dogs 'Hang 20' In Oakland For Spot In Rose Parade
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A bunch of canines in Oakland will be showing of their surfing skills Friday for a chance to appear at next year's Rose Parade.
The Lucy Pet Foundation is hosting the surfing showdown to raise awareness about spaying and neutering pets. The competition is part of the Oakland A's "Bark at the Park" dog event being held outside the Oakland Coliseum Friday afternoon.
Dogs will get canine life vests strapped on before hopping on the surfboards in the portable wave machine provided by organizers.
The Lucy Pet Foundation brought the wave machine along with a couple of avid canine surfers down to Ocean Beach for a Thursday demonstration to publicize Friday's competition.
If their balance is good enough, they can earn a spot in the 2017 Rose Parade.
After the Oakland stop, the contest heads to Chicago, Orlando and New York to pick out the best dog surfers
