CHP Helicopter Rescues Man Who Fell Off Cliff Near Santa Cruz
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A man was rescued by a California Highway Patrol helicopter crew late Sunday afternoon after falling from a cliff in Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, according to the CHP.
The CHP's H-32 helicopter crew was requested by Cal Fire in Felton around 4:45 p.m. to assist with the rescue of a 19-year-old man who had fallen 30-40 feet from a cliff onto rocks in the San Lorenzo River.
A paramedic was lowered 125 feet from the helicopter and utilized a hoist extraction to get the victim safely into the helicopter.
CHP officials said the victim suffered injuries considered serious but not life-threatening. He was taken to a nearby command post before being transferred to a medical helicopter for transport to a trauma center.
