Hostage Taken In San Jose Police Standoff Before Stabbing Suspect Arrested
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A man who allegedly stabbed a woman and took another person hostage Monday morning near downtown San Jose was arrested after a five-hour standoff, police said Tuesday.
Officers responded to a report of a man armed with a knife in the 200 block of North Ninth Street shortly before 1:30 a.m., police said.
Arriving officers learned a man chased a woman into a home and she came out with a stab wound, according to police.
The woman was transported to a hospital where she was treated for injuries not considered life-threatening, police said.
The man remained in the home with other people inside, which prompted officers to set up a perimeter around the residence and close streets in the area, according to police.
Soon after, someone who knew the suspect was rescued from the home and told officers that the armed suspect wouldn't let his girlfriend leave, police said.
Officers surrounded the home and repeatedly called on the suspect to surrender, according to police.
The suspect later stepped out of the home with a knife in one hand and a hammer in the other hand, police said.
The man held a woman taken hostage and refused to release her, according to police.
He also yelled at officers and didn't follow their orders, police said.
The man was placed into custody around 7:50 a.m. and booked into Santa Clara County Jail for many alleged felony crimes, according to police.
The female hostage was taken to a hospital for injuries from the incident and is expected to survive, police said.
