Burglars Steal 20 Handguns From Northern California Gun Store

GRASS VALLEY, Nevada County (CBS) -- Authorities are looking for two men who burglarized a gun store in the Sierra Nevada northeast of Sacramento Wednesday morning.

The Nevada County Sheriff's Office said the suspects showed up at Mustang Firearms in the community of Grass Valley just after 8 a.m. and forced their way in the front door, CBS Sacramento reported. The men then stole guns from display cases.

About 20 handguns were stolen, the gun shop's owner said. The suspects were last seen taking off in a newer, gunmetal grey Nissan Juke with paper plates.

Gun stores in the Bay Area and Sacramento area have proven to be popular targets for burglars in recent months. Burglars drove a vehicle to break into the Imbert & Smithers gun shop on El Camino Real in San Carlos on the morning of May 19th. On March 5th, a truck was used to break into thieves Independence Armory in Petaluma.

More than 100 guns were stolen from a gun store in Rocklin, near Sacramento, on May 2nd.

On July 13th, a group of thieves from Oakland broke into another gun store in Rocklin and a gun store in Folsom within a one-hour span. Authorities were able to recover "many firearms" in an Oakland neighborhood hours later.
