Oakland Police Discover 2 Bodies Inside Burning Car, Man Shot Outside

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A gruesome scene unfolded in Oakland in the wee hours of the morning Monday after police and firefighters responded to 911 call about a car fire.

When they arrived, they discovered a car engulfed in flames with two bodies inside.

Police found a man outside the car suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital.

It happened around 2 a.m. in the 9900 block of Empire at Gibraltar about a block from the Nimitz freeway. There are many homes in the area.

Kim Scott was frantically trying to get to her son. He was inside one of those homes at his grandmother's house, but she couldn't get past the police tape.

"He's safe, everybody is safe I'm just really concerned about what's going on in this neighborhood," said Scott. "It's disturbing you don't expect to come here and find this -- it's very disturbing but I'm glad everyone is ok."

Police have launched an investigation and say they are still searching for a suspect.
