Highest-Priced Bugatti Ever Sold Closes Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance Auction

PEBBLE BEACH (CBS SF) -- The car-loving crowd at last weekend's Concours d'Elegance in Pebble Beach witnessed the highest-priced Bugatti ever sold.

The gathering of prestigious cars and the people who admire them dates back to the 17th century, and is held in cities around the world. The annual summer event in Pebble Beach is perhaps the most well-known.

Santa Monica-based auction company Gooding & Co. made the record-breaking sale on the last day of this year's Concours, .

The 1932 Bugatti Type 55 Roadster sold for $10.4 million.

Even at that high price, the Bugatti was outdone a 1933 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza Roadster that sold for $11.99 million.

The auctioneer says, in fact, seven cars sold over the $10 million last week, a record for Gooding.

No word on the identity of the buyers.
