Police Seek Hit-&-Run Driver Who Caused Power Outage In Antioch

ANTIOCH (CBS SF) – Police are seeking a driver who fled after their vehicle crashed into a power pole early this morning in Antioch, resulting in an outage that left thousands of PG&E customers in the area without power.

The crash occurred around 2:20 a.m. near East 18th Street and Parsons Lane, according to Antioch police.

Responding officers determined the vehicle was traveling west on East 18th Street west of Blossom Drive when it veered off the road and struck a curb, then a wood power pole on the sidewalk, police said.

The impact caused the power pole to snap in half, resulting in power outages for customers on East 18th Street and Cavallo Road, according to police.

Officers were unable to locate the driver, who apparently fled on foot after the crash. No passengers were located inside the car either, police said.

About 3,600 customers were initially without power, but utility crews arrived on scene and were able to restore power to all but 57 customers by about 4:10 a.m., according to PG&E spokesman J.D. Guidi.

Guidi had initially estimated that all customers would have power restored by 10 a.m. but PG&E’s website indicated late this morning that some customers could still be affected until 4 p.m.

Police have notified hospitals in the area of the crash in case the driver seeks medical treatment.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact police at (925) 778-2441. Tips can also be sent via text to 274637 using the keyword “Antioch.”
