Man Swinging Golf Club Damages BART Train, Station; Disrupts Service

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Bay Area Rapid Transit police arrested a man who used a golf club to damage windows in a BART train and in the West Oakland station Tuesday afternoon, a BART spokeswoman said.

The incident was initially reported at about 1:30 p.m. at the station's East Bay-bound platform. The man smashed windows on board a Dublin/Pleasanton train there, then started walking down the stairs from the platform and smashing windows along the stairway, BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost said.

BART police responded and quickly took the man into custody. The damaged train had to be taken out of service, backing up service for all lines going into and out of San Francisco, Trost said.

Regular service resumed through the station with residual delays as of shortly after 2 p.m., Trost said.

The man never swung the golf club at any people in the station and just damaged windows, Trost said. No one was injured.
