UC Davis Football Player Accused Of Domestic Assault, May Be Dismissed
DAVIS (CBS) — A football player at the University of California, Davis is facing a felony charge of domestic assault, after an alleged altercation with his girlfriend.
Patrick Wells, a senior starting cornerback on the Aggies, is now suspended from the team and could face more discipline from the school, CBS Sacramento reported.
Davis police arrested Wells on Saturday after his girlfriend reported being physically attacked.
"The allegation was that following the argument, he had grabbed her and would not let her out of the car," Davis police lieutenant Paul Doroshov said.
Following the arrest, school spokesperson Dana Topousis released a statement reading in part: "He will be dismissed from the team should the charges be substantiated, in accordance with the UC Davis football code of conduct."
