BART Ahead Of Schedule To Fix Screechy Balboa Curve Track In SF
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- There will be no BART service through the Daly City, Balboa Park and Glen Park stations this weekend, BART officials said.
The service disruption started Saturday morning and was scheduled to remain in effect through Sunday and Monday. Shuttle buses will carry riders between the stations.

Regarding the closures, BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost told KCBS Radio's Jenna Lane, "we are ahead of schedule, which is great. At this point, we're even saying that the Oct. 15 and 16 weekend (scheduled closure) is tentative. It's looking very much like it may be canceled, which is great news for the Bay Area."
As many as 4,000 passengers a day have boarded shuttle buses between Glen Park Station and Daly City during recent weekend closures between these stations.
BART workers, meanwhile, have been doing major repairs. This weekend's to-do list includes replacement of an interlocking that allows trains to crossover and go around one another when needed. Sound-dampening equipment is also being installed on one of the noisiest sections of track in the BART system.
"We've been getting a lot of track work done. Next year we'll have a whole new series (of closures). This is, unfortunately, the new BART where we have to shut down the track to do major rebuilding but it's better than not doing it," Trost added.
Riders heading to SFO are advised to expect delays of up to an hour, BART officials said.
