Psychotic Breakdown In San Francisco Leads To Massive Arsenal

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A report of shots fired and an armed man having a psychotic breakdown last week led police in San Francisco to the alleged shooter and an arsenal of 57 firearms including semi-automatic rifles and machine guns, authorities said.

According to a San Francisco Police Department press release, officers responded at 6: 49 p.m. Monday to reports of shots fired in the area of Laguna and Green streets in the Cow Hollow neighborhood.

The officers contacted a witness to the incident who told authorities that their friend was having mental issues and was in possession of a firearm.

The witness said they had feared for their safety and fled the residence where the suspect was located. As they left the home, the witness heard several gun shots from inside the residence.

Police set up a perimeter around the residents and tried to find the suspect. During the search, officers found a man standing near where the suspect was last seen. The man was detained and later identified to be the suspect who had discharged the firearm.

After an investigation by officers, the suspect identified as 63-year-old San Francisco resident Jack Dane was booked into San Francisco County Jail on multiple gun-related charges including shooting at an inhabited dwelling and willfully and negligently discharging a firearm.
