Bruce Springsteen On Trump: "The Republic is Under Siege by a Moron"

By Amanda Wicks

(RADIO.COM) – Bruce Springsteen has shied away from being overly vocal about the 2016 presidential race while on tour, but in a new interview he opened up about who he thinks will make the best choice come November.

"I like Hillary," he told Rolling Stone. "I think she would be a very, very good president." Springsteen admitted that he didn't know if Clinton's team had approached him about participating in her campaign, but he's open to stumping for her. "I would take it into consideration and see where it goes," he said.

When it came to discussing Donald Trump, Springsteen had a lot more to say. "Well, you know, the republic is under siege by a moron, basically," he said. "The whole thing is tragic. Without overstating it, it's a tragedy for our democracy." He clearly doesn't see Trump as the solution to any of the country's problems. "And Trump's thing is simple answers to very complex problems," he said. "Fallacious answers to very complex problems. And that can be very appealing."

It's not the first time Springsteen has taken a dig at Trump. Earlier in September, a fan in the crowd handed him a copy of the Constitution with the words "F–k Trump" written on the front. Springsteen laughed at the "inscription."
