3-Year-Old Girl Killed By Stray Bullet In Stockton

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A 3-year-old girl riding in a car with her family was killed by a stray bullet in the same Stockton neighborhood where another shooting over the weekend left another person dead.

According to Stockton police, at around 8:26 p.m. Sunday night the child was struck by the gunfire while riding in a car with family members on the 1100 block of South Commerce Street.

The family immediately drove to an area hospital where the girl was pronounced dead. Police say that the family was not the intended target.

On Monday, police announced detectives are looking for a black Chevy Monte Carlo with tinted windows or a black or dark colored Chevy Camaro as a vehicle of interest in connection with the shooting.

The case remains under investigation.

The shooting was the second deadly shooting in the Stockton neighborhood during the weekend.

A block from where the girl was shot, police say a 30-year-old man was killed and a 24-year-old man hit by gunfire at a shopping center on Saturday.

Police said the shootings did not appear to be related.
