Man Battling Cancer Loses Home, Dog In Loma Fire

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY (CBS SF) -- A sad story emerged from the Loma Fire Wednesday about a man who was already battling an aggressive form of cancer who has now lost not only his home, but also his dog.

Someone shared a post on the KPIX Facebook page detailing the tragedy.

"Can it get any worse? Can we help? Can you help the family?" Tracy Lynn Sinkinson asked in her post. "Any little bit helps. Spread human-kindness."

The GoFundMe page set up by a friend says that the man, referred to only by his first name of Isaiah, had left his dog Thailin up at their home in the Santa Cruz Mountains on Monday.

That was the day that the Loma Fire broke out only 1,000 feet from the home.

While Isaiah and his wife and five children were away from the home as the fire exploded, he was unable to find Thailin when he tried to retrieve him.

On Tuesday, Isaiah and his family learned that their home was completely destroyed by the fire along with all of their belongings. They also found out that Thailin had not survived the fire.

In only 24 hours, the GoFundMe campaign has already raised over $10,000 of its $50,000 goal with 130 people making donations.
