Steve Young Writes Biography For His Son
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – San Francisco 49ers Hall of Famer Steve Young wanted to set his son straight on his illustrious playing career so what started out as a note to him has blossomed into an autobiography.
Called "QB: My Life Behind The Spiral" the book has hit the shelves and was the centerpiece of a book signing in San Francisco on Tuesday.
"My oldest son – Braden – came back from school one day about 6 or 7 years ago when he was about 10," Young told KPIX 5. "He never saw me play. He was born after I retired. He said he had heard a story about me and Joe Montana and it was just totally wrong. It wasn't even close."
So Young started writing notes to his son about his playing career.
"I thought oh no what am I going to do," Young said of the start of the project. "His whole life is going to be like what happened? That started the whole process. It was to get my kids a narrative of my story. But I never intended to have a book."
Young said it was heartwarming to see the turnout in San Francisco Sunday.
"This is a home game," he said. "It's nice that people are here. I hope it's a least an interesting read for the 49er faithful…They got what my kids got."
