DeBartolo Rep Meets With Oakland Officials About Coliseum Site
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A representative from a development company owned by former San Francisco 49ers owner Edward DeBartolo Jr. has met with Oakland officials about developing the Oakland Coliseum site, a city official said.
Oakland Councilman Noel Gallo confirmed the meeting happened, but didn't disclose the details of what was discussed Thursday and how it might impact the future of the Oakland Raiders.
"When it comes to experience and building — not just stadiums but housing and other business development — I mean, you couldn't ask for a more qualified group than the DeBartolo group," Gallo told KPIX 5.
Coliseum officials currently have an agreement in place with a group led by former 49ers and Raider star Ronnie Lott. It's was not known if Debartolo's group is working in conjunction with Lott.
Meanwhile, the Nevada Assembly voted Friday to approve legislation that includes $750 million in public funding for the construction of a professional football stadium in Las Vegas.
The new stadium could become the new home of the Oakland Raiders and the UNLV Running Rebels football team.
Raiders owner Mark Davis, who has been working with a group on Las Vegas on the stadium proposal, thanked the Nevada lawmakers in a prepared statement Friday.
"I would like to thank Governor Sandoval, the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee, and the members of the Nevada Legislature on this historic day," he said. "All parties have worked extremely hard to develop and approve this tremendous stadium project that will serve as a proud new home for the entire Raider Nation."
