White Nationalist Group Rallies Against San Francisco Sanctuary City By Pier 14

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- An anti-immigrant, white nationalist group opposing San Francisco's Sanctuary City policy briefly held a rally this afternoon along the city's waterfront.

Identity Evropa, which opposes immigration into the U.S., initially announced they would be holding a No Sanction Rally at Malcolm X Plaza at San Francisco State University at 3 p.m., according a post on the group's Twitter account.

The group said they would be protesting the city's Sanctuary City policy, a policy that keeps law enforcement agencies from reporting undocumented immigrants in custody to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

San Francisco State University spokesman Jonathan Morales said the school's police department was aware of the rally and would be monitoring it.

A live stream of the event however appeared to show the rally was held near Pier 14. The live stream appeared to show about half a dozen people in attendance.

Pier 14 is the site of a shooting that killed 32-year-old Kate Steinle on July 1, 2015. The suspect in the fatal shooting is an undocumented immigrant from Mexico who was released onto the streets of San Francisco by local law enforcement authorities prior to Steinle's death.

Identity Evropa is based in Oakdale, located in Stanislaus County, according to the group's website. The group reportedly held a similar rally in May at the University of California at Berkeley.
