San Francisco Woman Refuses To Give Man Cigarette, Gets Attacked With 2x4

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A 55-year-old woman was hospitalized Saturday evening after a man allegedly struck her with a piece of wood when she refused to give him a cigarette in San Francisco's South of Market neighborhood, police said Saturday.

The assault was reported around 6:15 p.m. near Fifth and Natoma streets, according to police.

The woman told police that a man approached her asking her for a cigarette. When the woman did not give him a cigarette, he struck her in the arm with a 2x4 piece of lumber, police said.

The suspect then fled on foot.

The victim was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life threatening, according to police.

Officers were unable to locate the suspect, described as a man between 45 and 50 years old.
