RENO (CBS SF) — The family of a former Concord high school student who fell at the Sigma Nu fraternity house in Reno last Sunday says he has not died.

Despite numerous reports that Ryan Abele passed away, friends and family say he is on life support.

The 18-year-old played baseball for De La Salle High School. His team won the North Coast Section Division I title.

Abele had just started his freshman year at University of Nevada Reno.

He was walking down the stars at the frat house when he fell. Doctors say he suffered extensive bleeding on the right side of his brain and ruptured a main artery.

A GoFundMe crowdfunding account set up to help his family pay for Abele’s emergency surgery raised more than $72,000.

Ryan is not dead yet. He is still on life support as of now. Please check your facts.

Who cares either way. There are a lot more important things to focus on. We need to stop wasting time on non-stories like this one.

  2. DD says:

This is true. I just saw a message from his mother stating that “Ry is not dead”. Please, fact check! This family is spending the last moments of their beautiful son’s life saying goodbye. They don’t need to see reports like this.

The two statements are not inconsistent. He may have a flat lined EEG while the life support is keeping his heart going. Medically, that would be “dead”. If so, like so many other tragic cases, the family is probably in denial about the true state of affairs.

Why would stupid people donate to keep some tool like this guy alive when there are real people in the world who need the money much more?

  3. Orrith says:

I cannot believe people are wasting their time commenting on this stupid guy. Who cares if he lives or dies? It would be one less person to compete with in society and that is always a blessing for the rest of us.

  4. Probably wasted from too much fraternity drinking and/or staring at his phone, when he tripped on the stairs. Typical careless, irresponsible millennial.
