Ruptured Gas Main Capped In San Rafael

SAN RAFAEL (CBS SF) -- Firefighters said a natural gas main on Lincoln Avenue San Rafael that ruptured late Monday morning has been secured, according to authorities.

The San Rafael Fire Department Twitter account posted that units were on the scene of the gas main rupture at about 11: 30 a.m. Firefighters have closed off Lincoln Avenue and evacuated residents in the immediate vicinity.

According to Fire Chief Christopher Gray, a contracting company doing roadwork broke the gas line. A total of three buildings in the area have been evacuated.

Breezy conditions were helping lessen the gas in the area, Gray said.

PG&E workers arrived to cap the leak at about 12 p.m.

Authorities said the leak was capped by workers at about 1 p.m. Lincoln Avenue reopened around 2:20 p.m.
