SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — Halloween costumes worn at a San Francisco elementary school Monday appeared to kill two birds with one stone: Halloween fun and educational lesson.

The fifth graders at Argonne Elementary School in San Francisco’s Inner Sunset District dress up as idioms, figures of speech that don’t always match the literal translation.

The kids got creative with their homemade Halloween costumes.  It’s the sixth year that teachers David Allen and Kim Tousley have had their fifth grade students dress as idioms.

According to Tousley, dressing up “has helped our English Language learners as well as other kid, learn to identify idioms and have fun.”
