Suspect Arrested For Hammer Attack In Bayview Heights

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A 30-year-old man suffered a fractured skull Thursday evening when another man attacked him with a hammer following an argument in San Francisco's Bayview Heights neighborhood, according to police.

Around 8:25 p.m., officers responded to a report of an aggravated assault in the 1000 block of La Conte Avenue, police said.

Once at the scene, officers learned that two men had gotten into an argument. When the 30-year-old tried to punch the other man, he missed. The suspect, a 49-year-old man, then grabbed a hammer and struck the victim in the head, according to police.

The impact caused the victim to lose consciousness. The victim was taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, police said.

The suspect initially fled the scene on foot but officers were eventually able to locate him. He was identified as San Francisco resident Perry Urquhart, according to police.

Urquhart was arrested on suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon, police said.
