Two Charged In Oakland Night Club Gunfight

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Two suspects have been charged for getting into a gunfight outside a downtown Oakland nightclub early Saturday morning that wounded eight
people, including themselves, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Brandon Simpson, 28, and Kehinde Riley, 20, have each been charged with three counts of assault with a firearm, Alameda County District Attorney's officials said.

According to police investigators, both Riley and Simpson were caught on surveillance footage getting into a gun battle after an argument with other still-unidentified suspects outside Club Vinyl at 420 14th St. at about 12:15 a.m.

Riley, Simpson and six other people were wounded by gunfire and taken to hospitals. Riley was found at Kaiser Hospital with a gunshot wound to the thigh and Simpson was found at Highland Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest, according to police.

The other victims were four females and two males between 17 and 28 years old. One of them was critically injured.

In addition to the assault charges, both defendants have prior convictions and are facing weapons charges as well. Simpson has prior convictions for grand theft in 2009, possession of cocaine base for sale in 2007, auto theft in 2006, and accessory after the fact in 2015, according to prosecutors.

Riley has a prior conviction for robbery in 2013.
