2 Seriously Hurt In Crash Following High-Speed Police Chase In Vallejo

VALLEJO (CBS SF) -- Two men were seriously injured Saturday morning in a crash during a pursuit with police in Vallejo, according to police.

At approximately 12:50 a.m., officers with the Vallejo police department observed a blue Honda Civic that had been reported stolen in a carjacking earlier in the evening in Fairfield by two men armed with a pistol, police said.

Officers attempted to pull the vehicle over but the driver didn't stop and accelerated at a high rate of speed south on Sonoma Boulevard.

Police said it appears the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a cement retaining wall of a parking lot just north of Jeffrey Alley.

The driver, a 19-year-old Richmond resident, and the passenger, an 18-year-old Antioch resident had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters, according to police.

Both men were transported to the hospital with severe injuries.

Police said a replica firearm was recovered from the vehicle the suspects were driving.

Investigators are working to determine if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash, police said.
