Band Of Thieves Hit Berkeley's Apple Store For Third Time In 2 Weeks

BERKELEY (KPIX 5) -- A group of fast-moving thieves have robbed the Apple store in Berkeley for the third time in less than 2 weeks.

Police say the group is in their late teens or early 20s.

The last incident was on Wednesday morning. They rushed into the store on Fourth Street and stole about $100,000 worth of merchandise.

Authorities are working with other agencies in the area to see if the thefts are part of a larger pattern.

"They're not there for very long, it's a property crime focused theft and we know what they're there for," said Sergeant Andrew Frankel. "We are working with Apple as well as the business district on Fourth street to see what we can do to stem that type of crime."

No one was hurt in any of the robberies.

The city now has additional officers out patrolling Fourth Street, as well as the holiday-related events going on around the city.
