San Jose Police Investigate Hate Letter Sent To Islamic Center

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- An Islamic center in San Jose received a letter with hate language, police said Friday.

Officers were dispatched to the Evergreen Islamic Center on Ruby Avenue at 7:10 p.m. Thursday on report of suspicious circumstances surrounding the letter.

The letter said that President-elect Donald Trump will "do to you Muslims what Hitler did to the Jews."

The letter called members of the mosque "children of Satan" and "vile and filthy people."

It went on to say "There's a new sheriff in town, President Donald Trump. He's going to cleanse America and make it shine again. And, he's going to start with you Muslims."

Investigators are treating it as a "hate-motivated incident," said Sgt. Enrique Garcia, San Jose police department spokesman. The San Jose Police Department's assault unit, which investigates hate-motivated crimes, is conducting a follow-up investigation.
